I’ll see you in Monet’s lily pads, the starry nights, and sun-burnt flowers, the silver cats and heavenly skies.
I’ll see you in the sailing boats that pass upon the glassy harbour, the rain-drenched cobblestones and impressionist coffee shops on misty afternoons. I’ll see you in the protest marches that bend the arc of the moral universe toward justice, the strident feet, the love-filled hearts, the minds that dream for better. I’ll see you when I sleep at night, on light-drenched milky ways, where children dance and heaven laughs, where people dare to wonder what life is all about. I’ll see you in the rough short-crust, the lemon-slices and wine-laced glasses, the fragrant nuts and heady spices, the warmth of a home-cooked stew. I’ll see you on the soccer pitch, the cheers of joy, and sweaty tears, the struggles and the triumphs. I’ll see you in a small child’s hand meeting their father’s, the soft warm creases of human touch, the silence that speaks so much. I’ll see you in the hardware store, amongst the off-cuts and the sawdust, the HB pencils tucked behind ears, the stains and scraps and noisy creations. I’ll see you in the friendly Isles, amongst the freedom and the singing, the sunsets upon the silver seas, the smiles of a thousand neighbours. I’ll see you in the rocking chair, among the tomes of silky wisdom, the pages that taught a million minds of happiness and of suffering. I’ll see you in the calm of pain, cradling a child’s aspirations, the hopes and fears that are still to come, the twists and turns of life. I’ll see you there standing, smiling. I’ll see you believing in the rainbows unseen, the hearts untouched, the dreams undreamt, the lives still to come, the wholeness of what it means to be, here, fully, forever. I’ll see you everywhere I go, hear your voice, feel your love, try to sing your songs of wisdom from the rooftops, carry your legacy for eternity. I’ll see you, as you saw me, loved me, taught me, knew me.
